Daily writing challenge to catch the moment

“…the writing challenge starting today…”

This site is meant to be a scratch pad, a place to capture thoughts before they are lost in tomorrow. In reality it is hit and miss with most of my effort being directed towards longer dissertation on LinkedIn which themselves are excerpts from my PhD journey.

But I am preparing for my data collection leg of my research project which will see me spending about 10 months on the road writing daily. I have been struggling with the disconnect of a knowing I need a daily habit and my current practice.

So when a new cohort opened up in the Peak Persona program for a writing challenge, I figure 1 September is as good a time to start a resolution as any. So here we are and here we go.

Knowing I will write about my day has an impact on my experience through the day. Each moment becomes into a reflexive experience, as I make mental snaps to consider what I might take away.

I have driven into the city countless times, on the same roads, over the same bridge. We were in the city today and decided to grab a bite at a Turkish restaurant. With an hour to kill before it opened, we took a walk to the river and over the Walter Taylor Bridge.

Not only had I not known its name, I was also not aware that it was the only bridge in the southern hemisphere in which people had actually lived. Like, a home. In a bridge.

Just as playing tourist in your own town, daily writing feels like writing a script for the life of my own movie.
